Mr. Gul Hassan Kalmatti

The late Mr. Gul Hassan Kalmatti was a prolific Researcher, Historian, Anthropologist, Social and Human Rights activist, and progressive writer. He had 10 well-researched books on various topics to his credit.

Mr. Gul Hassan Kalmatti belonged to a small village named Arzi Baloch of Gadap Town, District Malir. He was well educated and had acquired a B.A from SM Arts College Karachi and obtained a Master’s degree in Journalism (Mass Communication) and a Diploma in local government from Karachi University. During his college life, he had joined NSF (Dr. Rasheed Group), but after the fall of NSF, he joined BSO and the national movement of Sindh.

He was the author of nine books of history and a travelogue. One of his books was translated into Sindhi by renowned writer and broadcaster of BBC, Mr. Raza Ali Abdi, titled “Sher Darya.” He used to participate in programs and talk shows on numerous different TV channels and documentaries, and he had been writing blogs for social media. Mr. Kalmatti regularly contributed articles and features to newspapers and magazines.

Mr. Kalmatti was a travelogue historian. He traveled all around Sindh, Balochistan, Seraiki Waseeb, Punjab, and the Northern Areas of Pakistan. He also visited the coastal islands of Sindh and, along with Dr. Rukhman Gul Palari, explored the sites where Shah Abdul Lafif Bhittai had traveled. They journeyed from Bhambhore to Kech, along the path of Sussui, Sehwan Sharif, Ganjo Takkar, and Hinglaach Nani Mandar.

He explored the surroundings of Karachi Kohistan with Anwar Pirzado, Badar Abro, Kalim Lashari, Ishtiaq Ansari, Dr. Rukhman Gul Palari, and Zulfiqar Kalhoro.

He had a deep love for his Mother’s Land, Culture, Art, Rivers, Mountains, Valleys, Archaeology, Architecture, Heritage, Coast, Indus Delta, and old trade routes.

Due to his remarkable research work and write-ups, he had received many awards, shields, and certificates.
